At Mater Dei Academy, examinations are a means and not an end. As a Cambridge International School, our students benefit from the advantages of international standards of excellence in our junior cycle. Cambridge International examinations are carefully staggered and designed to optimise our students' opportunities for learning. Upon completion of the six-year programme, all students at Mater Dei Academy can sit the Irish Leaving Certificate examination as external candidates.

Senior Cycle

The Leaving Certificate is critical to the admissions process to third-level education in Ireland which is administered by the Central Applications Office (CAO). Most third-level courses have a requirement to pass the Leaving Certificate in Irish, English and mathematics, although some exceptions may be possible.  Once registered with the CAO, students at Mater Dei Academy are subject to the same process of third-level course allocation as public school candidates. Student select seven subjects in the Senior Cycle with the best six counting in the Leaving Certificate.
